Om Billy and I
Billy and I was founded in 2009. Behind the label is designer Klara Zethreus, with a vision to create fashion with an air of timelessness and clothes that are romantic, but at the same time rough and unpolished.
Billy and I A/W 2011 is a journey through the musical landscapes emerging from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean during the 60’s and 70’s. Inspiration is drawn from the glam rock scene and the later post-punk scene. It is sharp and sophisticated, yet decadent and with an androgynous vibe.
In the women’s collection the classic woman meets the rock icon. Some examples are dresses that show more back than décolletage and come in several lengths; from thigh high to over the knee. Pants are either wide or slim with pleats and zipper details. Blazers are both casual elegant like the new Adeline blazer, or have a rock’n’roll feeling, like the all over printed, snug fitting carry over blazer. Fabrics are sophisticated, yet raw and youthful. Among the woven fabrics we find brocade patterned Asian inspired silk crêpe, the classic silk charmeuse and all over printed chiffon. A jersey petinet patterns come in several styles and is worn unisex.
The men’s collection has a clear air of femininity, both styling and fabrics wise, and silk is used in many forms. We find a fantastic shirt in 100% silk with a natural coated finish extracted from river sediments (therefore the fabric is called ”clay silk”). A silk/cotton-blend satin is used for shirting and for the unisex style kimono (named after an infamous transvestite from a Lou Reed song). Another highlight is the glamorous faux fur coat. On the other side of the range there is the jacket in oilskin finish cotton and shirts in rugged wool and suede imitation, adding a roughness to the collection.
The hand knitted program remains for both genders and includes sweaters in silk/wool blends and mohair cardigans. It is luxurious material, but with a finish that makes it both rough and elegant at the same time.
It is the constant dualism. It’s Billy and I.
